Mark Bloome, Founder
Mark Bloome created TAP America out of his love for our country and its people. Only in America could his grandparents rise out of poverty and be given an opportunity that would have been denied them in Europe just because they were of Jewish descent. Only in Americas imperfect tolerance could his family have risen on the basis of their merits.
After high school he joined the Coast Guard Reserve as an enlisted man, and served in the Active reserve for 6 years and two years in the inactive reserve.
Mark graduated from the University of California at Berkeley in 1959 with a degree in Business Administration. Mark was very active on campus, headed Homecoming Week, was a Golden Bear, and was selected as one of the top students for his activities supporting the students and the University. While at the Bloome Company he attended UCLAs Executive Program at the Anderson School of Business.
After graduation he started to work in the family Business, the Mark C. Bloome Tire Company in Los Angeles. Mark worked his way through the ranks from tire mounter to president of the company. The company, changed the way tires were sold in the United States and was once considered the most successful independent tire dealer in the country. During his time of active management the company grew five-fold. In 1972 the family sold their interest out to public corporation. Mark stayed on with the Bloome division for 3 more years.
Mark moved to Seattle 25 years ago and became involved in community work. He co-founded Heart of America Northwest, to aid in the clean-up of Hanford Nuclear facility to protect the Columbia River [the second largest river in the USA] so that the river was not made unusable due to the water becoming radioactive from Hanfords nuclear waste. As part of this work, Mark put one of the most winning initiatives ever passed by the voters of Washington State on the ballot. One of its provisions was to grant more power to the citizens vs. the Federal Government when it came to cleaning up Hanford so that the crucial asset of the Columbia River was not lost to the economy of the Northwest and the people were not made sick by radiation in their water.
Mark is an investor/businessman, philanthropist, writer, and community activist in his neighborhood, City and State. He is a respected art collector, father of 3, and a grandfather of 5.
